Fares for public transportation in Kyiv will definitely increase.
This opinion was expressed by Viktor Medvid, director of the consulting company Invest-Expert, during a press conference at the GolosUA news agency.
Fares will definitely rise, they have always been raised, it is a stable process, but these increases are not always justified, the expert said.
"In Ukraine, as a rule, price growth is ahead of income growth, not vice versa. Given the fact that there is no increase in the population's income, it is rational to suspend price increases for such a necessarily necessary service as transportation. Transportation prices will definitely rise, because nothing has stopped the rise in utility prices, and, as you know, the cost of the minimum set of food for Ukrainians is rising very quickly," Medved said.
According to the expert, the increase in public transportation fares in Kyiv will range from 30 to 50% of the current tariff.
According to Mr. Medved, as for municipal transportation, the increase in fares is not an economic, but a political category. Of course, voters will react negatively to such an increase. How strongly society reacts to such a price increase determines how much these prices will be raised. Psychologically, Kyiv residents were frightened by the increase in fares to UAH 8, but in fact, the final result may be UAH 6.
