Expert: Expert: Simplification of customs clearance of "Euro cars" is a violation of environmental standards

Simplifying the system of customs clearance of cars with European license plates in Ukraine violates environmental standards.

Viktor Medvid, director of the William Invest Expert consulting firm, told this in a commentary to GolosUA.

"This will result in violations of the norms that existed before, violations of environmental standards, i.e. environmental pollution in Ukraine. The importation of all kinds of junk, garbage into the territory of Ukraine that does not meet the standards. And those cars that are traveling emit unpleasant harmful gases on the roads in urban areas, etc.", said Viktor Medvid.

According to him, simplifying customs clearance of cars with European license plates just before the election could attract several percent of voters.

"At the moment, any position that affects hundreds of thousands of people, and if we are talking about families, it means millions of people, of course, every aspect can be interpreted as political actions at the moment. The government could have taken such actions earlier (to simplify the procedure for issuing "Euro cars" - ed.), but in general, I think, in order to attract these few percent of voters with some benefits," the expert summarized.

At its meeting on February 13, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine simplified the procedure for customs clearance of cars with foreign registration "Euro cars".

In particular, the government noted that one of the deterrents to customs clearance of "Euro cars" is the complex and lengthy procedure for their certification, in particular, to confirm compliance with environmental standards. It should be noted that such cars cannot be cleared without the certification results.

In order to simplify the confirmation of compliance with environmental standards during customs clearance and first registration, the technical passport of the country of last registration will now be used along with certificates of conformity.
