The corruption burden in Ukrzaliznytsia is 10-30 % - Victor Medved economist

The cost of railroad tickets can be reduced due to anti-corruption activities.

Viktor Medvid, head of the William Invest Expert consulting company, said this at a press conference at the GolosUA news agency.

"A very important factor that makes sense to pay attention to is the economic efficiency of implementing anti-corruption programs. The same Supervisory Board was created to improve the efficiency of the enterprise. We had to see the results of anti-corruption activities. According to various estimates, the percentage of corruption burden ranges from 10 to 30 percent of the railroad's operations. For example, the percentage of corruption in the payroll is not so high, but in procurement, vehicle repair, maintenance, it is 30, 40 percent or more," said Viktor Medvid.

According to the expert, there was no effect of anti-corruption activities at Ukrzaliznytsia.

"We should have seen a reduction in the cost of services, which would have been a reserve to avoid raising ticket prices. Or we should have seen savings that would have been used for capital investments, to improve either the speed of travel or comfort indicators. I would like to note that none of this happened," said Viktor Medvid.
