Bridges, like roads, should not be in a state of disrepair. This problem can be explained by proper financing of the industry.
Viktor Medvid, director of William Invest Expert consulting company, said this during the Right to Voice program on the Golos UA news agency.
"Most of the bridges in Ukraine were built before 1980, so they require closer attention. It should be borne in mind that their maintenance has been at an inadequate level due to lack of funds," the expert said, adding that scheduled inspections and preventive maintenance of bridges are all a matter of funding.
"Lack of funding affects the scope of work. And the second factor is the efficiency of using the allocated funds. There is also a factor of corruption, which always goes hand in hand with inefficient budget allocation," the expert noted.
The expert also reminded that Ukraine's road network is 170 thousand kilometers, of which 97% are in need of repair.
"The emergency condition does not mean that the roads cannot be used, it means that they need major repairs," the speaker explained.
