Why did taxis in Kyiv raise prices? Victor Medved on VoiceUA

The rise in Kyiv taxi fares was driven by increased demand after the quarantine was eased, as well as by the companies' internal operating principles.

This opinion was expressed in a comment to GolosUA by Viktor Medvid, head of the consulting company William Invest Expert.

"This system was implemented by Uber when it appeared on the market. They had an algorithm that calculated traffic jams, and they implemented this system. It was a year and a half ago. Other services followed suit. Then Uklon implemented it, and so did other taxi services. This is not a tribute to the crisis, it is a secondary factor. The primary factor is globalization. That's why they are earning more and meeting the demand," said Viktor Medvid.

Taxi fares depend on the time of day.

"The algorithm calculates automatically, and the price, relatively speaking, from Arsenalna Square to Leningradska Square can be 70-80 hryvnias, and during rush hour it can be 200," Viktor Medvid added.
