Expert: Rumors about fare hikes are started by the authorities to find out how much they can get "cocky"

Certain negative information leaked to the media, including the recent "duck" about the increase in the cost of travel in the capital's subway, can be launched by the authorities themselves to see how the public reacts and the degree of possible outrage.
This was stated by Viktor Medvid, director of the consulting company Invest-Expert, during a press conference at GolosUA.
"If the information leak hadn't caused such a storm of indignation and objection in society, we would have seen an increase in subway fares very soon. But the government decided to "slow down" for a while. But as a specialist, I am interested in another question: what is the objective cost of traveling in the subway? According to various expert estimates, the cost ranges from 1 hryvnia to 3 hryvnia, and the latter figure has been repeatedly and officially announced by the authorities," the expert said.
According to Mr. Medved, a request has already been sent to the Kyiv City State Administration to clarify the tariff setting scheme, but unfortunately, even after the time allotted by law for a response, there has been no response from officials.
The day before, the capital's media reported that the Kyiv authorities were going to raise the cost of a public transport ride to UAH 5.
Earlier, the head of the Kyiv City State Administration, Oleksandr Popov, said that according to the Kyiv Metro, the cost of travel in the capital's subway in 2013 should be UAH 3.03. At the same time, Mr. Popov noted that by the end of 2013, the fare for Kyiv transport would not rise.
