Expert: It is necessary to deprive of rights even in the first case of drunk driving

It is necessary to deprive people of their rights even in the first case of drunken driving, as the number of accidents due to this problem is growing.

Viktor Medvid, director of the William Invest Expert consulting company, told this in a commentary to GolosUA.

"The fact that MPs have raised fines for drunken driving to 51 thousand hryvnias is positive, but I think that they should deprive people of their rights and that's it. Because people pay fines and continue to drive. Drunk driving causes a lot of accidents, and the issue is not only that, but that the statistics are growing - more and more accidents happen for this very reason," the expert said.

According to V,. Medved, as for the deprivation of rights, now it is generally the case, but not from the first case of drunk driving, but from the second or third.

"And it must be done the first time. As for the amount of 51 thousand hryvnias, there are different cases: some people have cars worth 2 million, and some have cars worth 20 thousand, but the fine is the same. That is, these are two different types of fines. So in this case, everyone should be equal, regardless of whether you have or don't have UAH 50,000," he said.

As a reminder, the Verkhovna Rada has introduced criminal liability in the form of a fine of up to UAH 51 thousand for driving a vehicle while intoxicated. This is stated in the bill No. 7279-d adopted by the parliament.

This document introduces the institution of criminal misdemeanors in Ukraine, and, in addition, establishes criminal liability for driving vehicles (including water vehicles) while intoxicated.
