Economic experts: "neither cold nor hot" from Economy Minister Petrashko

KYIV. 18 February. UNN. Ukraine has no economic development strategy or anti-crisis plan for the problems in the economy. Therefore, according to MP Serhiy Taruta, Economy Minister Ihor Petrashko was supposed to appear at the relevant committee of the Verkhovna Rada this week to report. But the Ministry of Economy itself said that there was no official invitation, which means that the public and MPs will not hear a report or plans for the future from the minister again. Therefore, UNN turned to economic experts for their assessment of the activities of the Minister of Economy, who has been in office for more than a year.

Economic expert Viktor Medved

According to Viktor Medvid, the Ministry of Economy and its head are not working in any of the necessary areas.

"The Ministry of Economy does not work in any of the areas. Its function is to model all other ministries and study their effectiveness. This is not happening, so I give Minister Petrashko a 'no' grade. They are only mastering corruption flows related to obtaining permits, but no one is dealing with the economy there," the expert believes.

Viktor Medvid emphasizes that with this Cabinet, the key ministry now exists only on paper.

"The minister has no efficiency, he works at the level of "sitting down and talking". In fact, we have no Ministry of Economy and no Minister - everything exists only on paper," he said.

Economic expert Borys Kushniruk

Borys Kushniruk believes that it is difficult to evaluate the activities of the Ministry of Economy if Minister Petrashko did not declare any plans, proposals or areas of work before taking up his important position.

"There are no economic steps. Do we know why Petrashko was appointed Minister of Economy? Do we have any public understanding on his part at the time of his appointment of what needed to be done in the economy? We don't know the criteria by which he was selected and what was checked. (...) He did not have any meaningful program or discussion. What can you expect from people who were appointed on a "like/dislike" basis?" he emphasized.

The inaction of the Ministry of Economy and the lack of meaningful steps to overcome the crisis will have further negative consequences for the entire country, Kushniruk said.

"For me, our Minister of Economy is neither cold nor hot. It does not change the situation and the problems that exist. I understand perfectly well that Petrashko is no good, but I don't see any point in making him a scapegoat, because almost the entire government is like that," he said.
